The time is finally here, to start recording in the studio.

We've booked 4 hours in for friday to get the drums recorded and ready for chopping up into samples to be used in the final mix. Because the midi layout is already the framework, we're just looking to get high quality recorded samples to swap into the mix. Variety:

We've thought about the process in which we're going to record these drums, we realised we would not need a talented drummer in order to record the drums, since they're going to be chopped up and sampled. We've set the drums up in an odd pattern, more like a line to fit the room, cymbals to one side, drums to the other side. What this has allowed us to do is use the rode nt5 mic as a close mic for the cymbal group while experimenting with other mics to see what kind of unique sounds could be gained. The goal of the full kit recording was to gain a variety of different sounds unique from odd hits to the drums/cymbals/rim shots etc. I feel confident that we've accomplished that, A lot of care went into getting all the sounds from different parts of the drums/cymbals but as did time, it took about 2 hours to record all the sounds we needed.

Once the sounds had been recorded the next step was to get them ready for the sampler, we briefly tried compressing the kick with the 1176 compressor, but we realised that we had run out of studio time for the day and that would have to wait until next session.

What's next?

So what's next on the agenda? That would be the synths and the vocals. This coming week shall be the week of the synths where focus will be mostly on the synthetic strings and the rhythmic fx synths but while we (Blake and myself) grab some time in the raven studio. Morgan focusses on the drums; as the chopping and making into a sample library will be done mostly by his lead, he will have creative control over this songs drum sound as well. While in the Raven studio we will hope to create some custom synth patches with the moog. Looking for ambience, synth strings, synth sound effects, "Rips, warps etc"

By the end of week 4 we will hope to have all recording done, drums ready to be put into the sampler, synth patches & vocals ready for post production
