One of the most important aspects of creating a piece of audio artwork is how much money goes into the recording and manufacturing of the album. With this album I want several avenues of release, the main one being a youtube release. That's a bit simple though and doesn't require any money, it also doesn't have the larger outreach that cds and radio play would reach. The recording studio I've selected is the Alchemix studios here in Brisbane. They have bundles and sessions per hour. And while I feel this album could have been done in 2 or 3 "single" sessions I'll be including the $4400 price of the EP recording package into the budget as well as the $250 add on for the drum kit hire.

Though I will be recording and mastering this album by myself, I will include the cost of mastering through a professional in the hypothetical scenario. At the cost of $110 p/hr I would hire the engineer for 3 hours for my 3 songs. This would be an additional charge of $330, however an in house master is already included in the package above. I've included this charge because I might want to send this project off to an actual

With the studio and mix engineer booked I'll be needing a budget for the band, including food and travel expenses. this will run at a rate of $100 a week for fuel and $150 a week per person in the band for food. This budget is based off Moneysmart.gov.au which lists an average living price for many things in Australia.

This album is being recorded by me and I will be using most of my own instruments, except for the drum kit so I wont have to hire additional instruments for this album.

In the hopes of creating an all inclusive budget I'll be hypothetically creating 10,000 copies of my album using the website Replicat.com.au, this website copies cds and even offers covers for the cds but for the purpose of this budget I'll be getting a quote on 10, 000 cds in bulk, without covers.

So to recap for the hypothetical situation:

$4650 - Studio, engineer and equipment hire and mastering engineer

$250 - For food and travel

$4070 - For mass CD manufacturing

Bringing the budget total to $8970

However as I have suggested the situation was a little bit hypothetical since I will be recording at SAE, and mastering myself... but I would like to make a budget for the practical situation as well.

So here's the practical situation

$0 - no additional fees for studio or equipment hire outside of cost of SAE

Possible $330 for mastering engineer

$250 - for food and fuel costs

$0 - for cd manufacturing as the means of release will be entirely digital.

Bringing the actual potential budget to $580

This budget would likely grow if I needed session musicians, or additional time to record. However this is a hypothetical situation that will not actually happen for this project.
