Firefly Game Sound

After sitting in on the project pitches of the game design students last wednesday I saw a very interesting game that drew me in like a moth to a flame. It was a game that is essentially about a firefly trying to get to the end of a train track without dying. The game is played through the eyes of the firefly, who needs to collect and use it's "light" to make it's way down the track avoiding obstacles. The atmosphere that we will need to create is quite dark and sombre, and there is almost creepy looking animations with a dark colour tone. There is no structured music to be played so the ambient sounds will have to generate the feeling of unease.

Blake Lavender and myself both wanted to work with this game so we will be working together with this project as well.

I will be the liaison and project manager Blake will be head engineer The game design team will be creating an asset list for us by the weekend but I'm already working on my own ideas to include.

We know we will need at least the following:

10 minute ambient train station with an end, can be a loop.

Train sounds including horn and woosh past.

Footsteps of people. Announcements over intercom. "Light" Collection and useage noises.

Bug zapper electricity sparking and crackling.

Death and rebirth noise to coincide with different deaths. eg bug zapper

A possible reference would be to look at LIMBO background music to see if that's something they're looking for.

Until we get the full asset list we will just be working on getting sounds that we know we will need, such as the train. I'll be booking out some portable recording equipment on monday afternoon after class so Blake and I can start the background noise tracks.
