The process of finding an industry relevant job takes time, effort and sometimes money, however it all starts from the first goal, to get an interview. There was a time when the act of physically handing out resumes or demos to the big wig community was the go-to process for getting your foot in the door. But with modern technology and new ways of reaching a community than ever before the process has changed, though the goal remains the same, to achieve an interview. As Trevor Fisher explains, you have to be a successful brand to get noticed in the current day music industry. This seems a bit counter intuitive, you need a brand in order to be a part of a brand but it makes sense on several levels. 1. In order to see that you have the basic skills the employer is looking for. 2. Creates the image that you are putting yourself out there, being brave or taking a leap. 3. It shows that you have the passion and commitment to the job.

Once you get noticed and a company calls you in for an interview they will be starting the interview from the moment you pick up the phone, they will hear how you answer your phone and your behaviour while on it.

But if you've gotten this far there must be something they can see in you.

You're ready for the interview, so what will they be looking for? Depending on the job they could be looking for different things but usually theres things that every employer wants from you. Starting with appearance, generally a professional outward appearance will help you during an interview, such as clothes or a clean shaven face. A piece of advice my mother gave to me was dress like you've already got the job. This shows that you are ready to go, and could start even that same day. Personality is also a large part of the interview process, they are looking for someone they can get along with and work with on a personal and professional level. Usually the questions asked will be to ascertain what kind of person you are, can you work on your own and in a team, will you be trouble to work around. Your attitude towards work can show in your personality. Experience will probably be necessary in most industries, so having a piece of paper saying you can do the job might be something you need. But also do you have experience in areas outside of your goal profession. This can be a sign to your dedication and the effort you put into your work. Communication skills or transferable skills as they like to call them are important no matter what industry you go into, you will nee the ability to talk to clients or peers on a friendly yet professional level. To work under instruction, co-operatively in a team or maintain independent workload. These things can be ascertained easily in an interview from your ability to communicate them to your interviewer.
