Today marks the end of the "ciggie butt brain" experience. With the last of the sounds done, and the mixing nearly complete it's time to take a look back at how we've done. The dialogue had all been recorded the weeks previous, by myself, Jolon and Blake. We came to the decision that that we'd take care editing our own parts. Jolon and myself with the dialogue, and Blake with the foley. This worked out pretty well and fairly distributed, though Jolon put in some extra work to get everything ready to show the class. We also helped record each others parts, swapping roles as the desk and protools operator.
The dialogue was recorded quite well in regards to quality, the AKG414 really helped in that aspect. We were given some feedback that the dialogue had a bit too much compression, so we toned it back a little bit and tried to give it some more space. It was also not too hard to sync the lips with the majority of the words because we took the time to record them properly giving ourselves several takes and keeping the best one. Having the script say something that closely resembled what their mouths looked like they were saying probably also helped. The foley we used came from the recording session last week, we recorded a few lighter sounds and also some breathing that Blake mixed together. We included some train station ambience that Blake and I recorded last tri, and some bird noises we recorded a few weeks ago. All in all I think the amount of foley was enough, due to the fact that it was such a dialogue heavy video, there's no real lulls or moments without sound. In regards to the team I found them easy to work with, even though we got off track a few times. Everyone was still able to do their jobs to a high standard, and create a finished product. The product by the way will be uploaded to youtube, and a ink sent to the creator of the original (insert name here) where we will hopefully receive some feedback on this adaptation of his work.
