Brief:

The second project we're going to try and tackle this trimester is helping an animation student with his 1-2 minute animation, it's a short animation about a young girl who loses her brother and goes on an epic journey through space and possibly time to get over her pain there is no dialogue however the soundscape that we need to create needs to differ between several different scenes that will need to be unique and stand out as a different stage of grief.

Isolation/Denial Anger

Depression

Bargaining

Acceptance

Isolation/Denial, it starts in a sandy desert wind blowing across, it’s a harsh wind. Blowing the sand around a large wooden pirate shipwreck. The ground shakes and groans as mounds of sand head towards the ship from all angles, they converge around the boat as the atmosphere gets tense. They break the surface and explode with black light, shooting up and around the boat as it engulfs the screen to the next stage.

Anger, starts with the black light, zooming out the black light becomes cracked and hard like a tree, then becomes several trees and then a forest, the trees a pumping. Like veins they begin to pump faster, as the girl touches the tree, it comes alive and tries to lash out at her, hitting the ground around her. She crawls through the tree branches and into a stream of blood.

Depression, As she stands up she sees a huge wave of blood coming towards her, destroying trees in its wake. She runs frantically away from the wave, the trees scream as they die. She makes it to the entrance of her cave. Safety. She runs deeper and the wave follows, flooding the cave and filling it up with blood. Swirling around, it crystalizes.

Bargaining, She walks up to a crystal and touches it, and it resonates with a pure tone and lights up the entire cave of crystals in a symphony of pure crystal notes. She touches it again and she sees her lost brother, and the bracelet he left her. She offers the crystal the bracelet as her hand warps through the crystal and gets stuck inside. The crystal beats like a heart and the bracelet is at its centre. Her brothers image appears and she goes to hug him.

Acceptance, the final scene is on her bed in her room, holding a photo of her and her brother. Light shines in as she sobs.

In Scope:

To create this dark atmosphere throughout the whole 2 minutes that will change between the grief stage or "world"

To re use sounds from existing library (footsteps in sand)

To mix and master a final copy for the creator.

To create a copyright document for my sounds that i make and to protect myself against infringement.

2 week polishing period at the end because scope may change towards the final product.

A large list of foley sounds for future development.

Out of Scope:

Composition of the music.

Animation work

Distribution of animation and peer review

Learning outcomes achieved by this project.
