Sounds like Design

Without having a detailed asset list provided by the animation team as of yet, I've decided to get a start on researching some of the sound design. Starting with the ship. I know the sound i want is going to be a long creak, when the wind picks up it creaks and groans.
The next sound is when the tree attacks the girl and almost crushes her. The specific sounds here will be the branches crushing and also the creak sound, but maybe pitched a little differently to give it a little bit of difference.
Something like the Whomping Willow from Harry Potter sounds just about right for what i'm looking for.
According to the sound designer and supervisor Randy Thom and co supervisor Dennis Leonard, the noise was made by slowly squeaking a blown up balloon and then time stretching it to make it lower. Mixing this sound in with various other sounds really makes the scene pop and give the tree a unique sound that sounds fairly close to the real deal.
In the video, you can hear a few different noises. The branch. The balloon. The woosh.
These are 3 sounds we will have to record during the live recording session coming up in week 5 but there's also another sneaky sound layered in there according to Randy and Dennis, there's a little bit of their own voices in there, slowed down in order to get the right bass in the creak.
I will have to experiment with this once the live sounds are recorded.
