Teamwork makes the Dream work

The 4 hours session in the S6 was more than helpful. This session was booked to make sure our team was comfortable enough in the S6 so that if we were working with a client we would be sufficient to do so in front of them without looking like an idiot.

It took about an hour to fully set up the S6 correctly, with a moment or two calling the tech help. Eventually it was all sorted out and we were ready to record, we thought we would start off with the sounds of the monsters, the growls screeching and movements of the scuffles. We set up an SM58 and an U87 in the live room, the U87 for the direct vocal noise, and the SM58 because the other U87 was being used, and this was just for some room noise and reverb.

David and Peter did a great job imitating a wild monster, the takes we used were great and recorded on the first take, but we wanted to get a few more so we pushed them to give a little more, and they came out with a great scream that will be going in the final mix.

Having created some good monster sounds we needed some general male grunts and movements. The boys had had enough and needed a break, so I took over the foley artist role. Giving my best low growl voice I tried to make a debut in my acting career. And we're probably not going to end up using this recording.
